Independent TV Production Company Pernel Media today announces that it has been commissioned by factual entertainment channel HISTORY® UNITED KINGDOM to produce an English language version of its successful docu-drama series ‘The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe’.
Fronted by historian and writer Dan Jones and directed by Chris Holt (‘Elizabeth I’), ‘The Real War of Thrones: Hundred Years War, told by Dan Jones’ (4 x 60’) is a major docu-drama series shot in 4K that charts the history of medieval Europe, and the attritional conflict of The Hundred Years War, through lavishly realised drama reconstruction.
The commission is the second major collaboration between Dan Jones and HISTORY, following his role as historical consultant on its epic Knights Templar drama ‘Knightfall’, due to premiere on HISTORY in the UK later this year.
‘The Real War of Thrones: Hundred Years War, told by Dan Jones’ recounts the epic story of the rival dynasties that forged the history of medieval and early modern Europe.
Originally commissioned for France 5 Television and shot on location across Europe, the series documents the turbulent conflicts between the French Royal Houses of Valois and Burgundy, and their Plantagenet rivals in England, which erupted with such ferocity in the titanic struggle of The Hundred Years War. Each episode focuses on a moment in European history and a clash between European houses which, so damaged France that it enabled England to briefly rule over the country.
Dan Korn, Vice President of Programming at A+E Networks UK, commissioned the series for HISTORY®. The Executive Producer is Samuel Kissous for Pernel Media.

SVOD platform CuriosityStream has also recently acquired the global non-exclusive rights to stream an international version of the series.
France Television Distribution handles distribution of ‘The Real War of Thrones: A History of Europe’ for the world outside the UK.
