International sales announced for Pernel Media’s hit docu-drama ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’

Foxtel, Viasat World and TV5 acquire hit series from France tv distribution

Independent TV Production Company Pernel Media today announces a first wave of international sales for its hit docu-drama series ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’.

Foxtel has acquired the series for History Channel in Australia and Viasat World will broadcast the series in multiple free TV and pay TV channels across 29 territories in Eastern Europe, Russia, the Baltic States and Scandanavia and 20 territories in Portugese-speaking and sub-Saharan Africa. TV5 has also acquired the series for broadcast in Quebec.

The deals, completed by France tv distribution, follow the sale of the global non-exclusive streaming rights to the series to SVOD platform CuriosityStream. France Television Distribution handles distribution of ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ for the world outside the UK.

Pernel Media will also produce an English language version of the series for HISTORY® UNITED KINGDOM fronted by historian Dan Jones titled ‘The Real War of Thrones: Hundred Years War, told by Dan Jones’. 

Originally commissioned by France 5, ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ (4 x 60’) is a major new docu-drama series shot in 4K that charts the history of Europe through lavishly realised drama reconstruction.

Produced in both French and international versions by specialist drama film crews and shot on location in spectacular medieval castles, ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ recounts the epic story of the rival dynasties that forged the history of modern Europe.

‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ is the latest major production for Pernel Media and follows the commissions of ’20 Years on Death Row’ by 13éme Rue, ‘Extreme Earth’ for France 5 and two series of ‘Wheeler Dealers France’ for RMC Decouverte.
