Golden Joystick Awards 2009/ 2010 – World’s Biggest Video Games Awards

Brief:

  • Achieve 1 million votes for awards
  • Increase awards awareness & participation with casual and lapsed gamers whilst maintaining relevance to enthusiast audience
  • Review, recommend and manage new/ existing media partnerships   
  • Assist in attracting new financial sponsors

Strategy: 

  • We created media partnerships with MSN, ShortList, Habbo Hotel and the BBC as well as creating a dedicated blogger media centre with a tailored schedule for this crucial audience
  • Boom! also created a Guinness World Record attempt for the fastest completion of Sonic the Hedgehog, creating a national news story

Results:

  • International kids TV coverage including BBC Newsround for the record breaking attempt, over 1.25 million votes cast and unprecedented international media coverage for the event

Outcomes:

  • 47% increase on media coverage YOY. Most successful event in Golden Joystick Awards 27 year history
  • Agency retained for subsequent events
