Pernel Media to produce second series of ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ for France 5

Independent TV Production Company Pernel Media today announces it has been commissioned by France 5 to produce a second series of hit docu-drama series ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’.

Following strong domestic ratings for the first season (4 x 60’) and initial international sales to Foxtel, Viasat World, TV5, Curiosity Stream and the production of a UK version for History UK, the new series will feature an extended order of 6 x 60’ episodes.

Again, featuring lavish drama reconstruction, it will focus on the struggles between Catholic and Protestant faiths and the intertwined relationships of rival and related European houses during the 1500’s. The reign of ‘Bloody’ Mary Tudor and her aggressive attempts to reverse the English Reformation led by her father Henry VIII, the reestablishment of Protestantism under Elizabeth I and the claim to the throne of Mary, Queen of Scots all feature along with the turbulent interlinked stories of rival dynasties of the time including House of Valois and Catherine de Medici in France, the Habsburgs and the Princes of the Holy Roman Empire in Spain and Germany.

“The domestic and global success of ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ builds on Pernel Media’s reputation for producing high-end factual series with great production value” said Samuel Kissous, President of Pernel Media. “This success demonstrates an international appetite for epic docu-drama series and we are currently developing several new productions to serve it” said Samuel Kissous, President of Pernel Media.

Distributed by France Télévisions Distribution, the second series of ‘The Real War of Thrones; A History of Europe’ was commissioned by Caroline Behar (Head of documentaries) and Thierry Mino (Deputy Head of Documentaries, acquisitions and international co-productions) at France 5. Executive Producer is Samuel Kissous for Pernel Media.
